DevLog 7 : Start of Second Production Sprint

Start Of The Second Production Sprint

Art

This week we started looking for some of the VFX we are going to be using for player feedback and those shall be implemented soon! We modeled the platforms that Croakie and Ribbie will be using to move around the map and escape the Heron!

On a more sad note, we also got their defeat animation ready to be played, in case they don't manage to dodge the scary Heron in time!

This week we also made sure that our Heron has a new look thanks to the textures!

In addition to that, we finally have an image for the lucky clover pickup.

We also looked around for some VFX concerning our lucky clover mechanics! We looked for both the effect for when they spawn and an effect for whenever they haven't been picked up yet. We're currently still contemplating a couple and will pick between these or might even combine them if we're feeling fancy!

Code

We've now made it so the frogs now flash red a couple times when taking damage to make it more clear to the player when they're being hurt!

The talon attack has received some tweaks and bug fixes, but most importantly, a model in the game! Don't forget, if your teammate gets caught, you are the only one who can still save them!

The wing attack has also been under construction this week. The heron will quickly swoop both of its wings into the arena, trying to take out the frogs, so don't touch them!

To make sure we keep prioritizing quality over quantity, we decided to remove some of the attacks from the game. The heron will now only execute three different attacks: the beak attack, the feet attack and the wings attack. Under the hood, the boss scripts have been adapted to support this change and to make everything more flexible for the developers. The timings of the boss attacks were also changed to make them less overwhelming in the beginning of the game. Each phase, the attacks slowly become more frequent and it will be harder to defeat the heron. In the future, the attacks themselves will also become more difficult over time.

The beak attack is also getting worked on to use the new models and textures, however as you can see the animations are still very much a work in progress!

That's a wrap then for another week of production, we're all excited to keep working on and polishing what's already there, until next week!
